Don’t Let The Bright Colors Of This Custom Porsche 911 Turbo Fool You

SSR Performance have created an 800 hp+ tuned version of the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S, that you can customize with some outlandish color schemes.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is already a powerful beast, and the 992 generation is the pinnacle of the range. But for German tuning company SSR Performance, that wasn't enough. They’ve taken the 911 Turbo and adorned it in some very bright colors. But don't let those fool you, as under the bright exterior lies some serious upgrades to the performance of the sports car.

The 911 Turbo now produces over 800 hp and over 700 lb-ft of torque to create a limited production run of just 10 of these exceptional performance cars. Various modifications to components such as the turbo and engine software helped SSR Performance to squeeze this extra power out of their 911.

SSR Performance says this 911 Turbo took over two years for them to develop and test. The SSR Porsche uses the latest 992 Turbo/Turbo S generation of the 911, and in total the brightly colored car makes 848 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque. That is a big jump over the 640 hp of the regular 911 Turbo S while the top speed is electronically limited to 210 mph.

SSR conducted a lot of work on the mechanical side of the 911 to extract that extra power. The turbos were modified, with the intake revised and the charge air cooling system upgraded as well as adding a new exhaust. Within the engine and transmission, things are virtually unchanged. But new software was added to both to take full advantage of the extra power. The downpipes and catalytic converters have also been modified. While there is now a four-way adjustable competition damper and a three-way adjustable damper, developed by SSR for the 911 on an F1 test bench.

SSR Performance hasn't just modified the mechanical components of the car. They paid close attention to the Porsche's aerodynamics to increase the level of downforce that the car produces. The sports car now has tripled the downforce of the standard 911 Turbo, allowing it to use its speed and power more than ever. The work to improve the car's aero performance is evident right from the front. With the nostrils on the hood like those on the latest GT3, and canards on the corners of the front fascia.

The back is where the most impressive changes lie. The most noticeable is the rigid carbon gooseneck rear wing, sitting tall and proud on the tailgate. But more impressive is the completely closed carbon underbody, including a new rear diffuser. Timo Vogt, project manager for development said that "With regard to the aerodynamics, we set ourselves the task of increasing the downforce while at the same time reducing the air resistance." He also said that increasing the downforce and reducing air resistance was the reason for "the completely closed carbon-fiber underbody with a height-adjustable diffuser."

SSR Performance developed many of the components for the car in the wind tunnel. The carbon fiber components such as the hood, air intake, bumpers flaps, and fins were all developed within a wind tunnel. The flaps and fins also extend to the underbody of the car. This all culminates in the ultimate aim of creating a high-powered sports car that can not only be used on the road but also on the racetrack. The extra power and grip from the new aerodynamic components should help the 911 Turbo put in some very fast lap times. Yet SSR will even allow you to go for some truly crazy colors for your car's exterior.

Judging by the images that the company has shown off when announcing the car, it looks like you will have a lot of freedom to customize the car. The car on show has a crazy, black-and-white camouflage pattern across the hood and the whole front fascia. It does a great job of hiding the canards at the side of the car. Either side of the hood is turquoise and pink, with the two colors extending down the side of the Porsche.

But the colors then merge into others, with them blending into blue and purple before they switch towards the back of the car. So one side will have a pink rear quarter color. Whereas the other side will be turquoise, inversed from whatever was on the front portion of the sports car. This is also complemented by a black, glossy roof and black sills running along the side of the car below the doors. We imagine that the ten examples that are produced will all feature some vastly different color schemes.

The craziness doesn't end there. SSR Performance has released images of another Porsche with a similar paint scheme, except with the turquoise replaced with a light blue. But the front now sees a gray fascia with a gloss, black hood that extends into the roof above it. The front splitter looks menacing in black, while the canards are a lot more visible on the bright front quarter panels. Images also show some much more conventional paint schemes available for the car. Such as various two-tone liveries with main body color and black accenting features like the hood and parts of the side panels.

The current 992 generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo is easily one of the best versions of the famous German sports car. The turbocharged flat-six engine produces over 600 hp and the top speed of the car is 205 mph. A 0-62 mph time of just 2.7 seconds highlights just how fast the car is off the start line and out of the corners. Various outlets have said that this is the sharpest and most engaging 911 Turbo S yet. So it's difficult to see how SSR Performance could improve on what sounds like perfection.

However, it looks like they have done just that. Only 10 lucky customers will be able to get their hands on these. SSR Performance has joined a growing world of Porsche tuners. Some of the biggest names in the business are that of Manhart with their TR 800 package as well as Techart with the incredible GTstreet R Flyweight. Not to mention Porsche's own high-powered 911 Turbo GT2 RS. A rumored power output of over 500 hp may mean some tuners will have to up their game if they are to offer more than what the factory is able to produce.
