FRITZ!Box: New firmware released

AVM has released a new lab version of its firmware for the FRITZ!Box, which should, among other things, make it much easier to switch to a new FRITZ!Box. Also included is a new energy-saving mode.

Every now and then, a router change is due in most households. The reason for this can be, among other things, an upgrade to a fiber-optic connection or simply the obsolescence of the previous device. In this case, the new FRITZ!Box previously had to be completely reset. With the new firmware, this is no longer necessary. For this purpose, it offers a new assistance program that provides step-by-step support during the changeover to a new FRITZ!Box. In this way, all previous settings should be able to be adopted in no time at all and effort should be eliminated. This also includes the connection of cordless phones, smart radiators and the FRITZ!App with the new FRITZ!Box. All of this previously had to be done manually.

Added to this is a new energy-saving mode, which is designed to reduce energy consumption during operation. Previously, using energy-saving modes was also possible. However, several separate settings for WLAN, Lan and USB had to be made for this. This is no longer the case. Instead, the option Energy Saving Mode is simply found in the settings under System/Energy Saving Monitor. In the energy saving mode, all functions of the FRITZ!Box can be fully used. Only the transmission speed may be reduced. Those who choose speed over energy consumption can use the balanced mode that is set by default.

The new firmware is initially available for the Fritz!Box 7590 AX, 7590, 7530 AX, 7530, 7490, 7520, 7510, 4060, 6690, 6591 and 6660 Cable models. In addition, it is available for the Fritz!Repeater 6000, 3000 AX and 1200 AX. In addition to a suitable device, the operating system FRITZ!OS 7.50 is required. In the near future, the update will be made available for all FRITZ!Box devices.
