October 27, 2022 — TDS Telecom (TDS®) has launched fiber services to the first customers in Janesville, Wisconsin. Up to 2Gig internet, TV, and up to 10G dedicated connections are now available to more than 1,400 homes and businesses. The milestone comes less than six months after the Madison-headquartered company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the city to build a fiber network.
"Fiber-optic infrastructure is in demand because it delivers the fast speeds and high-quality connections people want and need," said Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS. "We’re excited to be the company bringing this superior service to Janesville."
TDS broke ground on the 30,000-address fiber network project in early June. The construction process includes placing conduit and cable in public utility easement areas. Work will continue through the winter as conditions allow, with additional addresses gaining access to the super-fast speeds as sections of the network are completed. Residents can choose from a range of symmetrical speeds, as well as TDS TV®+ and phone service. Businesses can order 10Gig dedicated fiber connections, TDS TV+, and TDS’ hosted VoIP business phone solution, managedIP.
To celebrate the launch, TDS is hosting a donation drive for Box of Balloons at The Sugar Exchange, 119 N. Main Street on November 5 from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Supplies and donations will help fill birthday party boxes for local families in need. There will be special treats and giveaways. Residents are encouraged to bring donations of party games and solid-color party supplies including tissue paper; large and extra-large gift bags; balloons/party décor; 12-count plates, napkins, utensils, and cups. Financial donations are also welcome.
"TDS has a strong tradition of giving back to the communities we serve, and our launch event is just one example of how we’re supporting an organization doing great things in Janesville," said Petersen.
The company recently revealed it is investing about nearly a billion dollars to expand its fiber network footprint across Wisconsin. In September, TDS announced its intention to bring all-fiber infrastructure to 18 additional communities across the state including Milton, Evansville, Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth, Kohler, and Watertown.
